Jacob Leyrer enters his seventh season at SAU in 2020-21.
Leyrer was announced as the head men's golf coach in June of 2014 before being named the Director of Golf in 2016, where he would oversee the women's team while continuing to serve in his current capacity as the head men's coach, helping to unify the two programs.
In addition to his coaching duties, Leyrer also serves at the Associate Athletic Director.
Leyrer not only does bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Spring Arbor from his playing and coaching careers, but also a tremendous background in marketing and promotions. Along with his time serving as the varsity coach at Lansing Christian High School, Leyrer was the tour director and owner for the Michigan Players Junior Golf Tour for almost 10 years, where, under his direction, the Tour doubled the number of events and players.
Prior to his time with the Michigan Players Junior Golf Tour, Leyrer was an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach at Lakewood High School for three years and worked on becoming a Head Golf Professional. During his apprenticeship, he not only built his knowledge of the game, but developed event planning strategies and was trained to become a general manager of golf operations. After turning pro in 2007, he taught numerous collegiate golfers and continues to build the game of golf in the state of Michigan.
Leyrer attended East Lansing High School, and was a member of the 2000 MHSAA Division II State Championship golf team. After high school, he was the captain of the Lansing Community College golf team, where he played for two seasons and worked on his associate's degree in marketing.
