Mission & Core Values

Faith. Character. Leadership. Excellence.
Spring Arbor Athletics exists to develop student-athletes for a lifetime of service to Jesus Christ.

Our Mission

Spring Arbor University Athletics seeks to use the pursuit of athletic excellence to develop within our student-athletes a depth of faith, strength of character, and skills of leadership essential for a lifetime of service to Jesus Christ.

Our Three Pillars
Pillar One

Depth of Faith

Developing young men and women who love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and who love their neighbors as themselves.

Pillar Two

Strength of Character

Developing and affirming character qualities that shape who our student-athletes are when no one is watching.

Pillar Three

Skills of Leadership

Equipping student-athletes with the tools to lead others well and multiply their influence beyond sport.

Core Values

Intentionality in Spiritual Disciplines

Followers of Christ prioritize personal time with Jesus through regular time reading God's Word, praying and interacting with other believers.

Mark 1:35 — “Very early in the morning while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

Committed to Community

We value doing life together, bonding as brothers and sisters on our teams with Christ as the center and extending fellowship to the SAU community.

Hebrews 10:25 — “Let us not give up meeting together... but let us encourage one another.”

Service

We commit to serving others, including our opponents and our community.

Mark 10:43-45 — “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant...”

Love

Our athletes will experience the love of Christ and, out of the overflow of that love, express love to teammates, opponents and the community.

Galatians 5:6 — “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.”

Humility

We want our athletes to recognize that their talent is a gift from God to be used for His glory.

John 3:30 — “He must become greater, I must become less.”

Integrity

People of integrity make decisions based on convictions, follow through on promises, avoid excuses and choose words carefully.

Titus 2:6-7 — “In everything set them an example by doing what is good...”

Responsibility

We want our athletes to own their strengths and weaknesses, victories and defeats, and learn to control what is in their control.

John 15:5 — “I am the vine; you are the branches...”

Truthful

Words are powerful. We value speaking the truth regardless of the consequences that speaking the truth may bring.

Proverbs 8:7 — “My mouth speaks what is true...”

Perspective

We help student-athletes understand that sport is part of a much bigger picture and that the journey matters.

Hebrews 5:14 — “Solid food is for the mature...”

Respect

Our athletes choose to honor authority and earn respect by treating coaches, peers and opponents better than they want to be treated.

Titus 2:2 — “Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect...”

SAU Community Integration

We work to be a vital component of the SAU community, teaching balance academically, socially and spiritually.

Philippians 2:3-4 — “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit...”

Intentional Multiplication

We want to send leaders into the world who multiply themselves in the lives of others.

Hebrews 6:12 — “Imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”
