Tied 65-65 with 15 seconds remaining in the game Alma rebounded a missed free throw by SAU, brought the ball up the floor and were able to tip in a missed field goal attempt as time expired to pull off the 67-65 victory.
Freshman Darby Decker (Tawas City, MI) who started his first collegiate game had a solid all around performance as he tallied a team high 7 rebounds and 4 steals to go along with 4 points and 2 assists. "It was another agonizing defeat but I was encouraged by some of the things that transpired, especially the play of Decker," commented SAU head Coach Ryan Cottingham. "I was happy to see Darby have some success because he's been our hardest worker."
The Cougars have now lost their last four games after racing out to a 9-0 start.
Spring Arbor is off until Saturday, December 17th when they play at rival Siena Heights University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
