Cougars Cant Find Winning Ways

The Spring Arbor University Men's Basketball team couldn't find a way to get back in the win column over weekend with a hard-fought loss at the hands of Siena Heights University.

The Cougars went into Saturday night's game against the Saints carrying a four game skid on their shoulders and battled hard the entire contest before falling late. The first half was tightly contested with both teams shooting a decent percentage from the floor. The Cougars found themselves trailing by two points going into the locker room at halftime.

The second half was just as competitive but Spring Arbor's inability to convert on some key free-throw opportunities opened the door for Siena to build on the minimal lead they did have.

Coach Ryan Cottingham wasn't pleased with the fifth consecutive loss but wasn't displeased with the effort and ethusiasm his team showed throughout the span of the game. Cottingham commented, "Siena Heights always present a challenge, they have a great group of athletes and strong guard play. Our kids played well enough to win, we just couldn't convert at some pivotal points in the game."

The Cougars had four players see double figures in scoring with senior guard, Micah Lancaster leading the way pouring in 22 points while dishing out 8 assists. Scott Parish (right) played one of his best games of the season scoring 15 points and pulling down 9 rebounds. Other Cougar scoring came from DaJuan Jefferson with 13, and Mike Folkert with 11.

With the loss, the Cougars take their season record of 9-5 into Rochester, MI against NCAA Division 1 oppenent, the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University. The game is scheduled for Friday, December 23 at 7:00 PM.
