The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team split a pair of games in Grand Rapids, Michigan over the weekend at the Aquinas Invitational Tournament.
The Cougars opened the tournament with a 55-48 win over Indiana University at South Bend. Junior Jen Moor led the Lady Cougs with 21 points on 10 for 13 from the floor and 1 for 2 from the free throw line. Kristen Miller and Kara Buehrer each added nine points and Buehrer passed out five assists and hauled down a team high five boards in the contest. Spring Arbor shot 42% on 23 for 54 from the floor in the game.
The second day of the tournament saw the host Aquinas Saints hand the Lady Cougars a 53-64 defeat. Spring Arbor was outscored 16-29 in the first half and were never able to recover, in spite of edging the hosts 37-35 in the second stanza.
Mandy Phillips led the Lady Cougars with 19 points and 8 boards, while Kara Buehrer had 12 points and 4 assists in the game. The junior point guard also turned the ball over four times in the contest however. Spring Arbor shot a disappointing 34% for the game while Aquinas shot 40% from the floor.
The Cougars are back in action when they welcome Madonna University to campus on Tuesday, November 20th.
