A slow and methodical Taylor Trojan offense proved to be effective as they downed the Spring Arbor University men's basketball team 53-59 in Spring Arbor Fieldhouse Thursday.
Josh Brandt and Rob Boss paced the Cougars with 13 points a piece in a low scoring, slow affair that saw each team turn the basketball over less than 10 times. Boss also had a pair of blocks in the contest.
Down by four points at halftime (28-24), Spring Arbor drew even a couple of times in the second half but could never build a lead, allowing the Trojans to run down the clock and escape with a victory.
Neither team shot the ball well, with Spring Arbor hitting 32% of their efforts and Taylor checking in at a meager 35%. The trojans controlled the battle for the boards however, tounding up seven more loose balls than Spring Arbor (41-34).
"This was a tough game after a ten day layoff," commented SAU head coach Ryan Cottingham. "Our energy was good, but our focus wasn't. Our young guys are learning what it takes to prepare to play in this league."
Spring Arbor rounds out it's regular season schedule by traveling to Mishawaka, Indiana to take on the Bethel College Pilots on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
