Cougars Nip Grace on the Road

The Spring Arbor University women's basketball extended it's win streak to three games with a hard-earned road victory over the Grace College Lancers on Saturday.

The Cougars came out firing and built a 5 point lead at halftime behind 45% shooting from the floor. SAU was sound on the defensive side of the basketball as well, holding Grace to just 31% shooting in the first half.

"Going into the game I was a little concerned about our depth in the post and the fatigue factor," commented SAU head coach Tara Kreklau. "We battled through both issues and showed a lot of mental toughness. We found a way to win."

The Cougars continued to shoot the ball well in the second half (48%), but increased productivity from Grace closed the gap, making for a close game down the stretch.

"The players never lost their focus or confidence," commented Kreklau. "We made the key plays down the stretch to win the game."

Sping Arbor put four players in double digits in the scoring column. Jen Moor led the way with 17 points followed by Amber Huffman and Kristen Miller who poured in 11 each. Lyndsey Norman contributed 10.

The win gives the Cougars a chance to finish as highly as 5th in the MCC and earn a #5 bid to the upcoming MCC tournament. The Cougars welcome Huntington University to campus on Wednesday as they continue their crusade towards the post-season. The game is set to tip off at 7:00 p.m.
