The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team traveled to Hilton Head Island, SC. for spring break last week. The Lady Cougars are off to a great start to their spring, bringing home a 4-1 record.
The week started with a close 5-4 win over East Stroudsburg. Ellissa Mercer and Rachael Kafader were the only doubles winners for SAU defeating their opponents 8-3. Cara Wall, Amy Smith, Rachael Kafader and Anna Cotton contributed the other four wins in singles matches.
Spring Arbor swept two teams on the trip, Greenville College 9-0 and Heidelberg 9-0. Both days were played extremely well and the Lady Cougars put forth their best effort. Against Greenville the doubles were consistent with three 8-2 wins. Smith, Kafader, Cotton and Mercer all had a combination of 6-1, 6-0 wins in singles. The Lady Cougars kept up their momentum against Heidelberg with the doubles teams winning 8-1, 8-1, 8-2.
In between those two undefeated matches the ladies took another win from Campbellsville by a score of 8-1. The doubles teams again dominated, winning 8-6, 8-1, 8-0 with SAU's only loss coming in the singles competitions.
Although the Lady Cougars did extremely well all week, they closed out their trip with a 1-8 loss to Bloomsburg. Doubles teams lost all three matches 2-8 and the only win for singles was Ellisa Mercer (6-3, 6-2).
The Lady Cougars next take on Alma College today Mar. 19 at 3:00 and on Thursday, Mar. 22 they travel to Angola, In. and match up against Tri-State University at 3:30pm.
