Lady Cougars roll past Grace

Kara BuehrerThe Spring Arbor University women's basketball team continued their winning ways Wednesday with a come from behind 62-48 win over the Grace College Lancers on the road in Winona Lake, Indiana.

The Cougars shot a frigid 29% from the field in the first half, allowing Grace to lead by three points at the intermission.

Spring Arbor roared to life in the second half however, as the Lady Cougars shot better than 60% from the field, including 4 for 5 from behind the three point arc and 4 for 4 from the charity stripe. SAU worked hard on the defensive side of the basketball, especially in the second half as they limited the Lancers to just 19 second half points. Spring Arbor forced Grace into 21 turnovers in the contest.

The Lady Cougars were led by junior point guard Kara Buehrer who poured in 18 points and passed out four assists in the contest. Buehrer also came up with a game high six steals. Post player Kristen Miller continued to play well also, as she scored 11 points in the game. Lyndsey Norman and Jen Moor had nine points a piece while Stacie Maier added eight.

"We played well defensively," commented SAU head coach Tara Kreklau. "We have to continue to improve offensively if we expect to keep winning games, but I am very pleased with our effort on the defensive side of the basketball."

The Cougars are back in action on Saturday when they welcome the Huntington University Foresters to campus for yet another key MCC matchup. Huntington beat Spring Arbor 70-55 earlier in the season in a non-conference matchup at the St. Xavier Holiday Tournament.
