Strong Start for Cougars

Kara Buehrer, muscling past a defeder, scored 10 points
against Concordia. 

Over the weekend, the SAU Lady Cougars Women's Basketball team took to the court against Concordia University and Indiana University Southeast. Both games were held at Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and the Cougars proved to be victorious in the tournament.

Their first game was against Indiana University Southeast. Throughout the first half, the Cougars fought hard, but Indiana kept close behind closing the half with SAU only six points ahead. As the game wore on the two teams remained neck and neck, but the Cougars were able to pull out the win in the end, 57-62. Some key players for the game were Jen Moor who poured in 20 points, Andrea Kazmierski chipped in ten points, and Melissa Tejkl buried nine points of her own. Also, Jen Moor and Melissa Tejkl were key players defensively cleaning the glass for a total of 13 rebounds for the Cougars.

Their second game was against Concordia University. SAU remained in control of the game as the seconds ticked away and were able to scratch out another win, scoring 51 points to the Cardinal's total of 42. Key players in the game were Jen Moor who scored a total of ten points. Kara Buehrer matched Moor with ten of her own. Senior Lindsey Norman drained nine points and also led the team with nine rebounds. Buehrer dished out three assists in the contest.

Overall, the Cougars had a very good weekend as a team and are looking forward to their next game which is away at Aquinas College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5.
