Lady Cougars can't stay with Trojans

Amber HuffmanIn spite of playing a very respectable first half and going into the intermission down just five points, the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team could not sustain in the second half and fell 48-71 to an inspired visiting Taylor University squad.

Taylor had dropped a close one point decision to the Lady Cougars in the first round of MCC play in Upland, Indiana. The Trojans shot a solid 44% from the floor the second time around to extract their revenge from the host Cougars.

Senior Amber Huffman (right) led the Cougars with 12 points on a sizzling 5 for 7 from the floor in her final game in the Spring Arbor University fieldhouse. Junior Jen Moor also played well and chipped in with 11 points and six boards on the night.

The Cougars shot a respectable 47% (15 for 32) in the first half to keep things close, but followed that up with a dismal shooting performance (5 for 23 - 21%) in the second stanza to allow the visitors to pull away. Both teams committed just 10 turnovers in the contest, but Taylor held a distinct advantage on the boards, out-rebounding the Lady Cougars by a 42-28 count.

Spring Arbor will round out their regular season MCC play on Saturday when they travel to Mishawaka, Indiana to take on the natioinally ranked Bethel College Pilots. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 p.m.
