For their second conference game, the Spring Arbor Women's Soccer team faced the Goshen Maple Leafs. With the wind as a factor, Spring Arbor brought their best to ensure their 5-0 win against Goshen.
In the first half, the Cougars started out strong against Goshen with senior Stephanie Moore combining with freshmen Braydan Wiles who drilled in the first shot, deflecting off a Goshen defender, and finding the back of the net. Play slowed down a bit for SAU throughout the rest of the half and although they possessed the play, they couldn't seem to turn any goals.
The second half was a much different story as the Lady Cougars came out hungry. The speed of play improved as well as the goal scoring. In the first minute of play, junior Jessica Clarke scored off a pass from senior Heidi Sharp to start a string of goals in the second half. Freshman Allison Goble won a scramble in the box and volleyed the ball into the back of the net to score SAU's third goal. In the 52nd minute, Sophomore Jalese DeBiasi gained control of the ball in the midfield and found Goble on a through ball for her to finish the ball near post. The Cougars saw their final goal on a corner in the 71st minute. DeBiasi served in a high ball to the middle of the six that met Sharp's foot and went right past the Goshen keeper.
Head Coach Jason Crist had a few comments about the game, "Although the play wasn't where it should be, we stepped it up a bit in the second half and it was nice to score some goals. It's important to get these conference wins, but we still need to pick up our play if we want to compete for the MCC title."
The Spring Arbor Lady Cougars look forward to their next match away at Indiana Wesleyan University on Friday, October 9, at 7:00 p.m.
