There was no break for the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team as they competed on Saturday over the fall break against Albion College. The Lady Cougars fell to Albion, 56-41, in a close game as Spring Arbor rallied in the second half after suffering from early offensive woes.
Both teams struggled to find the net in a low scoring game that went into intermission 24-12.
Shooting an icy 18% from the field in the first half the Cougars trailed for most of the game, but were able to cut the deficit in the second half, improving to 39% from the field. Spring Arbor won the battle of the boards pulling in 33 to Albion's 32.
Pushing the offensive attack for Spring Arbor was Kelly Bruggeman leading the team with nine points, while Courtney Smith chipped in with five. Molly Sondergard led the team in rebounding with four boards while the rest of the team shared the responsibility with four players counted for three rebounds.
With the loss Spring Arbor is now 1-7 overall and 0-1 in MCC conference play.
The Lady Cougars will be on the road this Wednesday, December 2nd to play University of St. Francis. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
