Top Ranked Trojans Beat Cougars

Spring Arbor University women's basketball traveled to Taylor University over the weekend to face the Trojans who are currently undefeated in MCC conference play. The Lady Cougars lost to the #17 ranked Trojans, 65-37 after struggling to stop the offensive threats of Taylor in the second half. Taylor additionally sits on top of the conference rankings with an overall 7-2 record and 3-0 in the conference.

In the first half the Cougars were able to shoot a solid 35% from the field but were unable to keep up with the fast paced Trojans who shot 44%. Going into half time, Spring Arbor trailed by ten with the game still within reach, 32-22. Offensive woes took the Cougars out of the game, only managing to shoot an icy 16% from the field.

Junior Melissa Tejkl led the attack for the Cougars netting a team high of 12 points. Freshman Alex Glenn added seven points to the tally along with sophomore Megan Bement who chipped in six points. On the boards sophomore Kristen Kotarba pulled down seven rebounds, while Bement captured six for the Cougars.

The loss gives SAU women's basketball a 1-9 overall record and 0-3 in the competitive conference. The Mid-Central College conference currently includes five teams ranked or receiving votes in NAIA season ratings.

The next game for the Lady Cougars takes place this Saturday at Spring Arbor against Cornerstone University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
