The Spring Arbor University women's soccer team rolled past visiting Rochester College 8-0 yesterday on SAU's campus.
Seven different Cougars found the net in the contest, and eleven different players registered a point.
Sophomore Jalese DeBiasi got things underway for the Lady Cougars when she took a Heidi Sharp pass and navigated a Rochester defender along the end line before sliding a low shot past Warrior goalkeeper Katie Spellman from a skinny angle on the right side of the goal. The tally was DeBiasi's second of the season and occurred in the fourteenth minute of play.
Sharp would get in on the action herself in the 34th minute when she one times a Joy Duckworth cross past Spellman for her team leading fifth goal of the season. Four minutes later Sharp would turn provider once again as she set up junior Jessica Clarke with a close range effort off a low cross. Clarke slotted home to the low left corner for her first marker of the season. Just one minute and twenty seconds later Clarke followed up with another goal, this time of the spectacular variety when she smashed home a Hannah Adams cross with an impressive right footed full volley.
Freshman Megan Wegener rounded out the scoring for the first half when she took a pass from Clarke, beat the Rochester left defender and slammed a right footed shot to the back post to make the score 5-0.
The second half was much the same as the first. Junior center back Rachel Sinkovitz took a pass from freshman Braydan Wiles and cut the ball to her left foot before firing a low rocket through traffic in the Warrior penalty area that found the right side netting to increase the Cougar lead to 6-0 in the 68th minute. Sophomore defender Alyssa Curtis followed up with the first goal of her career in the 69th minute when she picked up a loose ball after a corner kick and knocked home a left footed half volley.
Junior Kristin Abbott, who was playing limited minutes after sustaining an injury several weeks ago in the Cougar's game with Olivet Nazarene, finished up the scoring when senior Cristi Dodge slipped her a ball through traffic and in behind the Warrior defense. Abbott tucked the ball neatly into the lower right corner past the on-rushing Spellman for the game's final marker in the 85th minute.
The Cougars owned a 45-1 bulge in shots on the afternoon and registered six corner kicks.
