Pilots Capsize Cougars

Bethel was hot and Spring Arbor was not as the Pilots rolled over the Cougars 85-62 on Tuesday night in Mid-Central College Conference action.

SAU built an early 5-2 lead but Bethel would go on a 23-0 run to pull away and never look back. The Pilots showed why they are the 3rd ranked team in the country as they shot 54 percent for the game including a 58 percent clip in the first half.

Junior Willie Pickvet was the lone Cougar to score in double-figures as he poured in 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting. Freshman Matt VanPelt was next in the scoring column with nine points.

Spring Arbor won't have to wait long to play again as they host the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats on Thursday evening at 7:00pm. IWU is currently 13-3 overall including eight straight wins.

"Bethel dominated us in every phase of the game," commented SAU head coach Ryan Cottingham.  "We'll make some adjustments and keep moving forward. We've had strong leadership from our upperclassmen throughout most of the first half of the season and we'll continue to lean on them as we turn our attention to IWU."
