LIVONIA, Mich. - The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team was able to hold off a 19-point Marygrove College comeback for a 77-73 win inside the Activities Center on Friday night in the first game of the Crusader Classic.

Spring Arbor was led by a 20-point effort from Baisden, along with 17 points and nine rebounds from Pickvet. The Mustangs' comeback was led by Dixon's 19 points and 11 points by senior forward Justin McKinney.

The Cougars pounced on the Mustangs early by taking an 11-0 lead after four minutes of play. The Cougar run was led by nine points from senior forward Willie Pickvet. The final two points of the run came on a Pickvet put-back dunk which led to a Marygrove timeout with 16:13 remaining in the first half.

At the mid-point of the first half the Cougars held a 32-13 lead after going on a four minute, 13-3 run. The Mustangs were able to build a run of their own by picking up their defensive pressure and outscoring the Cougars 16-4 over the next seven minutes, trimming the Cougar lead to 36-29. However, Spring Arbor was able to close the last two minutes of the first half on a 10-2 run that stretched the lead to 46-31.

Pickvet led all scorers at the half with 13 points for Spring Arbor, followed by nine points each from sophomore Chris Bellamy and senior DJ Baisden . Marygrove freshman guard Darryl Dixon led the Mustangs with nine points at the half after hitting two three-point shots and a lay-up during MC's 16-4 run.

With 11:17 remaining in the game, Spring Arbor was forced to call a timeout after seeing their lead shrink to six points, 60-54. Just over four minutes later, a Marygrove fast-break lay-up evened the score at 64-64. At the 5:30 mark in the second half and after trailing by as many as 19 points, the Mustangs took their first lead, 67-66, on a Dixon three pointer.

The two sides went on to trade baskets over the final five minutes. SAU was able to stop MC's final offensive possession and sink two free throws to finish the game with a 77-73 victory
