For almost 30 minutes Spring Arbor gave the NAIA Div II National Champions all they could handle. Chris Bellamy hit a 3 pointer to narrow Spring Arbor's deficit to 2 points and down 38-36 at the half. But the Cougars from Saint Francis (9-2, 3-0) had too much for the Cougars from Spring Arbor (5-6, 2-1) in the end as Spring Arbor suffered their first conference loss of the year.
Then, for almost 10 minutes to start the second half, Spring Arbor and Saint Francis traded punches until Ferdinand Morales-Soto hit a big 3 point bucket for USF and expand their lead to 7 points over Spring Arbor. Our Cougars never stopped fighting as Caleb Byers hit a field goal with 11:52 in the contest and was fouled on the play for a chance at the old fashioned 3 point play. Byers was unable to convert and Saint Francis started pulling away.
Willie Pickvet score 2 of his 10 points with 3:54 remaining and SAU wouldn't score again until 1:10 left but by then the game was out of reach for Spring Arbor. The final score would end up with Saint Francis on top 73-54. Saint Francis snapped a 6 game winning streak by Spring Arbor over Saint Francis, but SAU still leads the series 16-13 overall.
DJ Baisden topped Spring Arbor's offense with 14 points, all coming in the first half. Pickvet added 12 and led Spring Arbor in rebounds with 6.
Chris Bellamy scored 9 points.
