Lady Cougars Tame Mustangs

The Spring Arbor university women's basketball team breezed to a 72-57 non conference win over the visiting Mustangs of Marygrove College on Wednesday.

Spring Arbor held a narrow 30-27 lead at halftime after trailing for much of the first half before pulling away down the stretch in the second half. The Cougars shot just 32% from the field in the opening frame, but responded with a 57% performance (13-23) in the closing period to ice the game.

Kelly Bruggeman led Spring Arbor with 16 points on 5 for 8 from the floor, while Alex Glenn chipped in with 12 points, including a 3 for 4 performance at the charity stripe. Kate Bement and Ashley Stelter each poured in ten points for the home side while Stelter corralled 11 boards to earn her first double-double of the season.

"We had trouble with their pressure in the first half, " commented SAU boss Tara Kreklau. "We settled down and did a nice job with their press in the second half, and that allowed us to pull away."

The Cougars will now be off until Monday, December 13th when they travel to Dearborn, Michigan to take on the University of Michigan Dearborn. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
