Men's Basketball

Upset Bid Falls Short

Spring Arbor - The Spring Arbor University men's basketball team fell short in their upset bid of #9 ranked Bethel College 78-72 on Tuesday night. Trailing 32-28 at halftime the Cougars went on a 19-7 run to lead 47-40 early in the second half. The Pilots responded by scoring seven straight and would eventually push their lead out to eight points at 61-53. Junior DJ Baisden kept SAU in striking distance as he poured in a career high 27 points. Senior Richard Blair recorded 16 points and seven rebounds while senior Rob Boss chipped in with 10 points.

"Our effort was outstanding. Unfortunately we were unable to capitalize on some opportunities in the second half but you have to give Bethel credit," commented SAU head Coach Ryan Cottingham. "They are a very good team and certainly deserving of their top 10 ranking. Baisden played exceptionally well and Blair was strong too."

It won't get any easier for the Cougars as they travel to Marion, Indiana on Saturday afternoon to play the #5 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats. Tip-off is set for 3:00pm.
