Baisden Eclipses 1,000 Points; Cougars Fall

The #5 ranked Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats shot a blistering 71 percent from the field in the first half and the Cougars of Spring Arbor were unable to catch the 'Cats as they fell 79-61 on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 46-34 at intermission SAU fought to the end and as they were able to cut the score to 61-54 with just fewer than six minutes to play. The Cougars would get no closer as IWU pulled away down the stretch.

Junior DJ Baisden became the 37th player in school history to reach the 1,000 point club as he pumped in a game-high 21 points and now sits at 1,006 for his career. Baisden already passed Kreg Kinnear ('77) and Dean Lockwood ('82) on the list. Kinnear completed his career with 1,001 points while Lockwood tallied 1,003. Baisden is averaging just less than 17 points per game this season and scoring at a 19 PPG clip in MCC loop play.

Seniors Richard Blair and Rob Boss contributed 13 points and 10 points respectively.

"IWU played very well," commented SAU head coach Ryan Cottingham. "They've got a lot of weapons and are well coached. Our effort was good and we competed hard throughout but they were the better team this time.

Spring Arbor returns home for a two game stand as they host Grace College on Tuesday night and Huntington University on Saturday. Tip-off for Tuesday night is slated for 7:00pm.
