Riske's Marker Enough to Drop Warriors

Spring Arbor University senior women's soccer player Christina Riske is used to be being in close range to the goal, but normally she's defending it.

Riske, who has been the Cougar's starting goalkeeper for much of the past four years, also has a hidden knack for playing forward and put her offensive prowess to good use on Friday, knocking home the game winning goal for Spring Arbor just seventeen minutes into their match with Indiana Tech. Spring Arbor played four probable starters less thanfifteen minutes each, allowing Riske an opportunity to shine up front.

The 5'5" Flushing, Michigan native got on the end of a Maegan Smith through ball and calmly dribbled IIT goalkeeper Jordan Roell before slotting the ball home into an empty net for the game winner.

"Christina is a handful for opposing teams as a forward," commented SAU head coach Jason Crist. "She is a phenomenal athlete and has tremendous speed. It was exciting to see her have a chance to make an impact for the team outside of her normal goalkeeping duties."

Spring Arbor controlled what was a very physical match throughout, out-shooting the Warriors 20-10 on the match. SAU also held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

"We continue to find a way to get things done, in spite of our challenges,"noted Crist. "Eventually we are going to get some ofthese people back in the lineup full time and I think we will be capable of playing some pretty special soccer when that happens."

Crist lauded the play of his midfield through the early part of the season.

"Some of our best play has come from some of our youngest players so far this year," finished Crist. "Braydan Wiles, Ashley DeNio and Karly Linton have been nothing short of fantastic in our midfield. We are much improved through the heart of the field."

The Lady Cougars (4-1)will be back in action tomorrow when they face off with hosts Cedarville University at 4:30 pm EST.
