The Spring Arbor University Cougars made it close at the
end, but there just wasn't enough left in the tank as the Foresters of
Huntington University defeated SAU 83-78 on Bockwitz Court on the campus of
Spring Arbor University.
Almost the entire game Spring Arbor (11-11, 3-5) was playing
catch-up to Huntington (15-5, 4-3) despite career high 32 points from senior
standout DJ Baisden. Baisden connected
on 10 of 25 field goals including three 3-pointers and hit 9 of 12 free throws
in the game.
The contest was never out of reach for the Cougars as the
Foresters almost never led by more than 10 points. The first half ended with Huntington on top
33-27, but the second half had most of the game's scoring as Spring Arbor
scored 51 points against Huntington's 50 which made it entertaining for the
fairly large crowd attending the game.
Senior Forward Willie Pickvet scored 23 points and grabbed 9
rebounds, while Sophomore Matt Howe, continuing to get improve his game, scores
12 points and pulling down 7 rebounds.
Sophomore Chris Bellamy grabbed a game high 12 rebounds and added 9
points. Freshman Rob Hogans was the only
other Cougar to find points tonight as he added 2 points.
Another Milestone was reached today for the Cougars. Tuesday night, Willie Pickvet earned his
membership with only 37 others in SAU's history into the 1000 point club, and
today, DJ Baisden topped the 1500 point mark.
His 32 points now gives DJ a career total of 1512 points which puts him
in 14th place on the all-time list.
The men are off for a week until they play Goshen College on
the road Saturday, January 22 for a 3:00 tip.
