Stelter's Double-Double Not Enough for Cougars

For Spring Arbor University head Coach, Tara Kreklau, some losses are harder to take than others. This one will sting for a while. The Cougars lost their fifth straight game, this last one to Rochester College 70-66.

Poor shooting has been a culprit during the last couple of weeks, but not the case tonight. Shooting 40% (8-20) from beyond the three point arc, SAU constructed a 62-53 lead with 5:51 to go in the game. But Spring Arbor (8-14, 2-6) would score only 4 points down the stretch. A pair of Rochester (12-9) free throws gave the Warriors the lead 67-66 over the Cougars with 0:49 to go. A costly turn-over and a couple of SAU fouls to stop the clock gave Rochester a couple more free throws and the game was over.

The Cougars had four players score in double figures tonight led by Sophomore Alex Glenn and Melissa Tejkl with 15 points each. Guard, Ashley Stelter put in a huge performance scoring 13 points and hauling down 14 rebounds. Stelter made every shot she put into the air tonight going 5-5 from the field, including 1 three pointer and she hit both of her free throws. Audra Norris added 12 points.

Rochester's Sophomore Sam Tomaschko came into tonight's contest 2nd in the Nation (NAIA DI & DII) in blocked shots.  Five behind the leader, Tomaschko collected six blocks to give her 79 blocks for the season.

The Cougars will stay home for the next contest on Saturday, January 22 against MCC opponent Goshen College. Game time is 1:00.
