Spring Arbor University's women's basketball coach, Tara Kreklau knew today's game with 4th ranked Indiana Wesleyan University was a daunting task. Four of the Lady Cougars were out for today's game and maybe longer depending on how fast they can heal up.
Sophomore forward April Adams is out for the season with a serious knee injury she suffered in the game with Malone, sophomore guard Ashlie House is out with a concussion, Junior Megan Bement is out with a back injury, and Junior Kelly Bruggeman is out with a concussion. Bruggeman and Bement have started every game for the Cougars, House and Adams have started a combined 8 games for SAU.
"It's disappointing that you work so hard to get the kids ready to play the conference schedule and then all these injuries happen," stated Kreklau. "I'm not saying we would have won these games, but I would have liked to see how we would have competed with everybody you plan on having."
Indiana Wesleyan (16-2, 5-0) scored the first 5 points in the game and never trailed as is built a 36-19 halftime lead. Spring Arbor's (8-11, 2-4) Melissa Tejkl scored 11 of her game high 18 points in the first half. Ashley Stelter scored 10 points and had 7 rebounds for Spring Arbor.
The Women are off until Wednesday, January 8 when they travel to Winona Lake, IN to play Grace College. Game time is 7:00 pm.
