SPRING ARBOR, MI - The men's basketball team just couldn't
get things rolling on Saturday afternoon the Gray Wolves of Lourdes College
bested the Cougars 59-53 in the Trent Allen Memorial Tip-Off Classic.
Matt Howe led Spring Arbor with 15 points and once again
just missed a double-double clearing nine rebounds.
Trailing by as many 16 points in the first half (16-32),
coach Ryan Cottingham and the Cougars had to make some critical adjustments at
the break to have a chance to win this ball game.
Starting the second half, Spring Arbor kept Lourdes from
scoring for almost four minutes while the Cougars climbed back in the game and
cut the lead to only 5 points (27-32).
With 10:34, Chris Bellamy hit a three point shot to draw the
Cougars to within three points 36-39.
That would be as close as Spring Arbor would get as the Gray
Wolves would pull away from SAU and finish out the upset victory over Spring
Arbor 59-53 and drop Spring Arbor to 1-1 early in the season. It was the first victory for Lourdes against
two losses and avenged a loss to Spring Arbor in last year's Tip-Off
Tournament.
The Cougars will resume action on Tuesday at home as
Concordia will visit Spring Arbor. Game
time is set for 7:00
