GOSHEN, IN - The Women's Tennis team had to go on the road to get it, but the ladies picked up their first win on the season on Saturday afternoon as they soundly defeated the Goshen Maple Leafs 9-0.
The Cougars never lost a set from top to bottom and picked up valuable confidence as they head into the heart of conference play.
Number one singles, Kelly Smith improved her record to 3-1 on the season defeated Anika Baumgartner 6-4, 6-1. She and Becca Kragt teamed up for the closest match of the day at #1 Doubles beating Baumgartner and Summer Hasan 9-8 (8-6).
"We played like we wanted to win today," said Coach Peggy Calderone. "We stayed focused throughout the doubles and singles. I am very proud of our one and three doubles team. They both came from behind to win huge points for us. We worked hard on doubles this week and I feel that the ladies are really starting to gel.
"With five new players, it takes a few matches to see what works well, and what doesn't," continued Calderone. "I like what I saw today and I'm proud of the way the girls played."
The Cougars will stay on the road as they will visit Marian, In and take on Conference power, Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday, September 13. Match time is set for 4:00
