SPRING ARBOR, MI - Tonight's game with Grace College will be one that Coach Ryan Cottingham will soon want to forget. In the first half the Cougars just couldn't get anything going, or get anything in the basket. After 20 minutes of play Spring Arbor would manage only 17 points on 5 of 22 shots from the field and the Lancers doubled up the Cougars 34-17 on their way to a 75-66 win.
Spring Arbor would play better after the break but the hole they were in was just too deep to pull out of. Grace would stop every run that Spring Arbor would put together and even though with 11:23 left in the game, Spring Arbor pulled to within eight points, Grace would step it up and get the lead back to 19 again a few minutes later.
The Cougars would start yet another run and pull to within seven points, but there wasn't enough time on the clock to make a difference and the Cougars would lose their third straight for the first time this season.
The Cougars were led by Chris Bellamy with 23 points, 18 of those in the second half.
Rob Hogans was all over the court tonight and added 14 points. Matt Howe started to return to form scoring eight points but hauled in a game high 12 rebounds in the loss.
Spring Arbor falls to 15-10 and 6-7 in the MCC while Grace leads the Conference at 19-5, and 9-4.
The Cougars will rest up until Saturday when they will hit I-69 south to Marian, Indiana to face Indiana Wesleyan University for a key MCC Match-up. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
