SPRING ARBOR, MI – It didn't take an election to decide the winner of the Spring Arbor University, Lourdes University women's basketball game on Tuesday night.  It was the solid play of the Lady Cougars and in particular of Freshman Carlie Newman who led Spring Arbor in a 70-56 victory of the Gray Wolves.

For the second straight game, Newman was the go to person for the Cougars following up her 16 point performance against Rochester with a 19 point effort tonight hitting clutch shot after clutch shot.  In total, Newman was 7-14 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line while she also grabbed nine rebounds.

Fellow freshman, Amy Konkel scored 12 points and she also had five assists and three steals  for the Cougars.

"I was really proud of the overall effort of the entire team tonight," said Coach Ryan Frost.  "The first half we rebounded the ball well, and moved the ball around well in our offense and on nights that we aren't shooting well it's something that we just have to do in order to win."

April Adams had numbers in every stat category tonight with a solid performance on both ends of the court.  Adams finished the night with nine points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and steal.

"April had a big night for us," continued Frost.  "We also got good work off the bench from Audra Norris, and Alex Glenn and Jenna Jamieson played well in her first college experience.  All of those ladies did some really positive things for us and that all adds up.  I think we stepped forward tonight as we look forward to Friday night."
