PALOS HEIGHTS, IL – Ana Byrens had her best game of the season and it couldn't have come at a better time for the Spring Arbor University Lady Cougars. Spring Arbor defeated Trinity Christian College on the road 67-48 and snapped a seven game losing streak for the Cougars.
Byrens hit for 17 points on 8-10 from the floor in her most productive game of the year. Her previous best was 10 points just one game ago against Rochester College.
The game was closely contested for the first half of the game with Spring Arbor taking a 34-29 advantage into the break.
Trinity scored the first bucket coming out of the half to cut the lead to three points, but that would be the last time that Trinity would score a field goal for almost 15 minutes. Spring Arbor would out-score Trinity 25-7 during that span and the game was all but done at that point.
Jessica Garrison and Carlie Newman both added 12 points for Spring Arbor. Garrison was 5-6 from the field and hit both of her free throws as she only missed one shot all day.
Aimee Konkel added nine points and Alex Glenn dished out five assists in the win.
The victory improved the Cougars record to 3-7 on the year and will nest play in the Post Exam Jam in Holland, Michigan hosted by Hope College on December 14-15. The Cougars will face the Host school, Hope College on Friday night at 7:30 and then face Kalamazoo College on Saturday at 1:00.
