Cougars Win in Double Overtime


GOSHEN, IN - Rob Hogans drove through the lane and made the lay-up with two seconds remaining in double overtime to lift Spring Arbor to a 100-98 thriller over Goshen College in MCC Play. It was only the second time this season that Goshen was beat on their own floor.

Hogans' heroics lifted the Cougars to 16-12 and 7-9 and it was a critical win for the Cougars as Spring Arbor in now in a three-way tie with Taylor and Bethel for 7th place in the tightly contested MCC Conference. Goshen falls to 18-10, and 8-8 and tied for 5th place with Huntington.

The hot shooting Hogans led all scorers in the game with a career high 34 points on 14 of 18 shooting from the field and four of five from the charity stripe.

Chris Bellamy scored 23 points in 50 minutes of play as he only came out for a few seconds in the game. Matt Howe added 18 points and grabbed a team high seven rebounds.

Goshen had five players score double figures led by Kody Chandler with 20 points.

The game featured a total of 14 ties and 16 lead changes with the largest lead being seven points by Goshen College. The largest lead the Cougars were ever able to hold was just four points.

Goshen tied the game in regulation with a bucket with 20 seconds remaining and with Bellamy unable to connect on a shot with a second left on the clock. Time ran out with both teams scoring 83 points.

Down by two points (87-89) in the first overtime, and with 27 seconds left, Rob Hogans scored his and Spring Arbor's sixth point of the overtime to tie the game up at 89 apiece an send the game into the second extra period.

Hogans scored 10 of Spring Arbor's 17 points in the overtime periods.

The remaining two games are both at home for the Cougars starting with Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday night. Game time for that game is set for 7:00 pm which will set up a key match-up with Huntington University on Saturday at 3:00. The game with Huntington will be Senior Day and Community Day for the Cougars.
