MOUNT VERNON, OH - Spring Arbor University found the trip to
Ohio not to their liking on Wednesday night as the Cougars from Mount Vernon
Nazarene University (MVNU) took down the Cougars of SAU 62-48.
The Lady Cougars of Spring Arbor trailed Mount Vernon 25-19
at the break, and started the second half on the short of a 0-6 run to trail
31-19 after the first five minutes. But
Spring Arbor didn't throw in the towel just yet.
Spring Arbor out-scored Mount Vernon 20-9 over the next
seven minutes to cut MVNU's lead to just one point (40-39) and with 7:56
remaining. Senior, Angela Russell hit a
3-pointer to cut the lead to one point.
Russell was the only Cougar in double digits leading Spring
Arbor with 14 points. Russell hit 4 of
12 shots from outside the 3-point line and was one for one from close range.
"I'm proud of our girls tonight," said Coach Ryan
Frost. We fought hard for forty
minutes. What hurt us tonight was free
throws and a lot of missed open looks.
But we showed great effort and never gave up."
The loss dropped the Cougars to 8-20, and 4-13 in the MCC
while Mount Vernon improved to 15-12, and 7-10.
The loss also eliminated Spring Arbor from the post season MCC
Tournament as MVNU moved three games ahead of Spring Arbor.
SAU will finish the season on Saturday on the road Huntington
University with game time set for 1:00
