Women's tennis plays IWU tough, but falls 8-1

SPRING ARBOR, MI - Spring Arbor's women's tennis team played host to the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats on Thursday afternoon and did something that they haven't done since 2007. Even though the Wildcats beat the Cougars 8-1, the #3 doubles team of Katie Storrer and Jenna Bart defeated IWU's Diane Jones and Courtney Siepman 8-6 for the first match win since September 4th, 2007.

"Despite the lopsided score, I thought we hung in there and competed with them pretty well," said coach, Peggy Calderone. "Hope (Roelofs) was tough, Quincy (Banini) is really going to be a good player, our one and two doubles played them tough. It's just hard to see how competitive we were with the scores the way they were."

According to Indiana Wesleyan's athletic website, the Wildcats haven't lost a League match in the last eight years. Sometimes, you just have to hand it to your opponent.

The loss dropped the Cougars to 0-2 on the year while the Wildcats improved to 3-0.

The Ladies will travel to Upland, IN on Saturday for an 11:00 match with Taylor University.
