A goal from senior midfielder Braydan Wiles was all the Spring Arbor University women's soccer team would need to get by former WHAC rival Madonna University on Wednesday afternoon.

Wiles, who led the Cougars with five shots on the afternoon, netted her first goal of the season when her left footed drive hit a Madonna defender a few yards from goal and beat the Crusader goalkeeper to the near post.

Spring Arbor riddled the Madonna frame with shots, launching 20 attempts with ten on the frame in the game. The host Crusaders managed two attempts over the 90 minutes. The Cougars were also heavy favorites in the corner kick category, earning six free services from the flag, to none for the hosts.

The Cougars defense was stifling once again, as the midfield and back four of Becca Lynn, Hannah Adams, Courtney Harrison and Cheyenne Martinez-Trevino shut down Madonna forward Ashley Parent who is currently leading the WHAC in goals scored and shots per game. Parent, who is averaging better than a goal per game and nearly three shots per game manufactured none of either variety, as the Spring Arbor back four had her on lock for the entire 90 minutes.

The Cougar's defense has been amazing this season, as they have allowed an average of just three shots per game to their opponents while the SAU offense averages nearly 25 of their own per match.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Yancer picked up one save in notching her sixth shutout of the season.

Spring Arbor is back in action on Friday when the Reserve team welcomes Jackson Community College to campus for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.  The varsity team will be back in action Saturday evening for their final non-conference match as Cincinnati Christian University comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
