After their match on Sept. 1 against conference opponent
Taylor University was rescheduled due to rain, the Lady Cougars were prepared
to take on another conference team, Grace College.
The Lady Cougars traveled
to Grace and would face the Lancers in not only their home opener, but also
their first match of the season.
Coach Peggy Calderone said, "The girls came out playing very
aggressive and got after it." This aggressive nature is depicted in the final
score of the match as the women won every set, ending the match with a final
score of 9-0.
The Lancers had no answers for the Cougars attacks in both
singles and doubles play. In each
singles match all but one match had at least one set score that was either 6-2
or 6-4, with Quincy Banini winning her set 6-1, 6-1. The closest doubles match was the number 2
doubles team of Kelli Cross and Banini from SAU against Grace's Nicole Beguin
and Janelle Hess. The Cougars won 8-6.
SAU will face Marian University on the road on Saturday
Sept. 8 before they play at home for five straight matches.
