SPRING ARBOR, MI – The Spring Arbor University women's tennis team won a thriller of a match, 5-4 in the first round of the Crossroads League Tournament at home on Tuesday afternoon. Erin Hossack was the last on the court at #6 singles with the match score tied at 4-4. Hossack won the first set 6-4 and clinched the match by winning the second set 7-5 for the game, set and match.
While every win for the Cougars was a critical point in a 5-4 decision, Janna Bart and Katie Storrer's match at #2 doubles was also clutch for the Cougars. The match went into a tie-breaker at 8-8 with the Cougars winning the tie-breaker 7-3 win take the 9-8 match and a 2-1 lead as Mary-Kate McShane and Paige Fallu teamed up to win the #3 doubles match 8-2.
Needing the split the singles matches to advance into the next round, SAU did just that as McShane quickly dispatched her match at 6-1, 6-1. Quincy Banini won the fourth point with a 6-4, 6-4 match at #2 singles setting up the drama for Hossack.
"We came out aggressive and just kept fighting for the whole match," said Head Coach Bobby Pratt. This was a great win for our team and we are excited to be moving on in the league tournament."
#4 seed, Spring Arbor (6-3, 5-3) will travel to the #1 seed, Indiana Wesleyan University on Thursday, October 3 at 4:00 p.m.
