SPRING ARBOR, MI – Sophomore phenom Carlie Newman scored a game high 18 points and Kylie Townsley and Jessica Garrison scored 11 and 10 points respectfully, but it wasn't enough for the lady Cougars as they fell to the Trinity Christian College Trolls 52-48 on Saturday afternoon on Bockwitz Court at SAU.

Spring Arbor hit just 19 of 73 (26%) field goal attempts, including just 8 of 31 from 3-point range in a disappointing shooting effort in the losing effort.  Spring Arbor out-rebounded the Trolls 47-44 but TCC's defensive pressure put the Cougar on edge

The Troll's Caitlin Cody led TCC scoring 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the double-double.

The contest was evenly matched as each team held the lead twice in the second half and the largest lead by either team was just four points.  Spring Arbor last held the lead with just over six minutes remaining.  The Cougars held a three point lead (26-23) at halftime.

Newman and Rachel Driesenga led SAU on the boards each hauling in eight rebounds, and Townsley and Garrison each grabbed seven boards.  LeAnn Porter had six rebounds.

"You have to hand it to Trinity Christian, they hit free throws down the stretch and that was the difference in the game," said Head Coach, Ryan Frost.  "There are some habits on the defensive end that we have to change in order to see consistent success.  I can't fault our effort.  I thought we did a good job on the offensive boards and giving our selves second chances."

The Cougars will remain home and play Rochester College on Wednesday night, November 20, in the first game of a double-header with the Men's team.  The Women's game with the Warriors will begin at 5:30 p.m.  Spring Arbor defeated Rochester on November 9, 60-53 and are 8-5 overall over the last seven years.
