SAU Men's Basketball comes from behind to win Crossroads Opener over Goshen

GOSHEN, IN – It was a tale of two halves for Spring Arbor University men's basketball in the Crossroads League opener against Goshen College on Tuesday night.  Spring Arbor trailed the Maple Leafs 33-41 after one half of play, but turned it around and out-scored Goshen 55-38 in the second half to steal the game away from the Leafs to win 88-79.

During the first 20 minutes of play, Spring Arbor got out-rebounded 14-8, turned the ball over eight times, and hit just one of six 3-pointers to find themselves down by eight points (33-41).

Head Coach, Ryan Cottingham must have inspired the Cougars during the break, because Spring Arbor was a different ball team during the second 20 minute stanza.

The two most noticeable differences between the first half Cougars and the second half Cougars was rebounding and shooting.  Spring Arbor out-boarded the Leafs 18-7, and hit 71% from the field including four of six from outside the arch.

Rob Hogans continued his amazing senior year campaign by scoring a game high 34 points and hauled in a game high 10 rebounds.  Nine of the ten games this year, Hogans has surpassed the 20 point mark.

Freshman, Thomas Starks, had his highest point performance of the season with 16 points and Tyler Hughes added 15 points in the victory.

Xavier Prather dished out five assists and had three steals to lead SAU.

Spring Arbor evened out their season record at 5-5 and are now 1-0 in Crossroads League play.  They will return home for a Tuesday, December 3 ball game with the Foresters of Huntington University.  Tip time is set for 7:00 p.m.
