Cougars fall to Saints in Crossroads/WHAC Challenge

SPRING ARBOR, MI – Aquinas College made 85 percent of their free throws including 17 of the last 18 to shut the door on Spring Arbor University's in the second game of the Crossroads League/WHAC Challenge.  The Saints defeated SAU 67-62 after Indiana Wesleyan University up-ended Cornerstone 83-74 in the first game.

The Cougars took the lead with 16:05 left in the first half and kept the lead until 7:20 left in the game and even trailed Aquinas by nine points with 2:27 left.  It looked bad for the Cougar faithful, but the Cougars never gave up and kept scrapping to get back into the game.

Peter Barry connected to cut the lead to seven and after a free throw and a miss by the Saints, Rob Hogans made good on a 3-pointer to cut the lead to five points with 1:42 remaining.

Two more free throws by Aquinas and then another huge 3-pointer by Rob Hogans made it a one-possession game with the Cougars down 58-61.

Spring Arbor could never get closer than three points as Saints just didn't miss a free throw down the stretch to keep the Cougars at bay.

Rob Hogans led the Cougars for the fourth time in as many games with 21 points and seven rebounds.  Hogans has had scoring games of 34, 24, 21, and 21 points so far this season.

Greg Hamilton was next with 14 points and Thomas Starks added nine points for Spring Arbor.  Starks also grabbed eight rebounds to help the Cougars out-rebound the Saints 39-25, including 20 offensive rebounds.  Tyler Hughes hauled in seven rebounds as well.

The Cougars fall to an even 2-2 for the year and will face Cornerstone (1-1) tomorrow afternoon at approximately 3:00.  The game will follow the 1:00 IWU (4-0) vs. Aquinas (1-0) game which starts at 1:00
