ROCHESTER, MI – The Women's Basketball team came from behind to defeat the Rochester Warriors on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, MI. Carlie Newman poured in a game high 25 points to pace the Cougars in a 60-53 decision.
Spring Arbor trailed Rochester by three points (28-31) at halftime and the Cougars outscored Rochester 32-22 in the second stanza for the comeback win.
"I thought we really stepped up on our effort, especially on the defensive end," said Head Coach, Ryan Frost. "In the second half, we did a very good job of rebounding. It wasn't a perfect game by any means, but we'll take the win."
Newman's 25 point effort was coupled with a game high 12 rebounds giving the sophomore her first double-double of the season. The hot-shooting Newman hit six of ten shots from outside.
"Carlie did a great job tonight leading us," continued Frost. "She did a fantastic job on both ends of the court with rebounding and obviously led us offensively."
Karly Bender added 13 points for the Cougars including hitting a pair of 3-pointers and Kylie Townsley pulled down five rebounds.
The win lifts the Cougars to 3-0 and will next play the 16th ranked Siena Heights University (SHU) Saints in Adrian on Tuesday, November 12 on the Campus of SHU with a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
