PHOENIX, AZ – Rob Hogans continues his stellar play leading all scorers with 32 points and hauling in 12 rebounds but it wasn't enough for the Cougars losing to Arizona Christian College 87-77 in the first game of the Arizona Christian College Classic in Phoenix, Arizona.
Hogans connected on 12 of 26 shots from the field, including two of seven from 3-point range and hit six of nine from the free throw line to pace Spring Arbor, who falls to 5-8 on the season. Hogans also grabbed three steals to lead the Cougars in that stat as well.
Trailing the Firestorm 45-31 at the half, Spring Arbor rallied in the second 20 minute period, as they have all season long, and out-scored ACU 46-42, but ran out of time with the 10 point deficit.
Collin Hewitt and Greg Hamilton each chipped in with 10 points each and Thomas Starks played solid with six points and six rebounds with zero turn-overs in the game. Starks, Xavier Prather, and Tyler Hughes each had six points.
Historically, Spring Arbor has been one of the better free throw shooting teams in the NAIA, but today struggled from the free throw line hitting just 17 of 32 for 53%.
It won't get easier for the Cougars as they turn around tomorrow and face another tough opponent in Westmont College at 5:30 local time (7:30 pm EST).
