Women's Soccer Falls to #1 Lindsey Wilson 5-2

The tough schedule continues for the Spring Arbor University women's soccer team.  The Lady Cougars fell 5-2 to defeding national champion Lindsey Wilson College at the Cougar Soccer Complex last night.

In spite of a high scoring, low shot total afair, the match was a back and forth battle with ample opportunities to score for both teams.  The Cougars were outshot 10-6 on the night.

SAU held the lead for a good portion of the first half, striking just four minutes into the game off a right footed laser by junior Samantha Sturgeon.  Lindsey answered back in the 25th minute and then struck again in the 32nd minute to take the lead.  An unfortunate own goal by the Cougars with less than a minute to play in the half gave Lindsey a 3-1 lead heading into the break.

Spring Arbor re organized and played a much better second half, but struggled to keep a dynamic Lindsey side at bay when the Blue Raiders flooded forward on counter attacks or runs from their backs.  Lindsey found a goal in the 53rd minute, but the Cougars answered back less than a minute later with an unassisted effort by Becca Lynn. Lindsey's Carola Schnieder capped off the scoring in the 77th minute with an unassisted goal.

Spring Arbor drops to 1-2 on the season with the loss, with both of their losses coming at the hands of NAIA Top 25 ranked opponents.  The Lady Cougars will travel to Marygrove University on Wednesday for their next non-conference match.  The match is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m.
