SAU Women's basketball falls to Taylor 61-50

UPLAND, IN – Spring Arbor University's Lady Cougars shooting went cold in Upland, IN against the Taylor University Trojans as SAU shot just 31% from the field and 14% from 3-point range falling to Taylor 50-61 on Saturday afternoon.

For the first eight minutes of the game the Cougars and Trojans went toe to toe and were tied 8-8, but the next eight minutes went all Taylor's way as the Trojans outscored Spring Arbor 16-2 to take the lead 24-10 and would control the game for the rest of the first half and SAU would head into the break down 21-31.

Taylor came out of the half and stretched their lead to 16 points (46-30) with 11 minutes left, but the Cougars fought back and rattled off six straight points and cut the Trojan lead to 10 points, 36-46 with 10:46 remaining.

Over the eight minutes, Spring Arbor whittled Taylor's lead to just three points and trailed 50-53 with 1:57 left.  But the well ran dry for Spring Arbor and Taylor would finish the game on an 8-0 run and complete the scoring at 61-50.

Jessica Garrison led all scorers in the game with 18 points and Carlie Newman added 14 points for the Cougars.  Kylie Townsley continued her sold play with 10 points in the game.

Spring Arbor falls to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the Crossroads League and will stay on the road to face the #1 team in the NAIA, the University of St. Francis Cougars (18-0).  Game time in Fort Wayne, IN is set for Wednesday night, January 15 at 7:00 p.m.
