INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The #20 ranked Marian University Knights handled the Spring Arbor Cougars Tuesday night on Marian's Campus sending the Cougars home on the long bus ride with 76-62 Knight win. Both teams left the court with nine wins, however SAU has lost 12 games while the Marian Knights has lost just four in a much more limited schedule. The Cougars are 4-5 in the CL and Marian is 5-3.
Marian constructed a 12 point lead with 5:22 left in the first half, but buckets by Collin Hewitt and Xavier Prather cut the lead to ad with the Cougars trailing 20-28 with 4:32 left in the half.
Marian responded the SAU charge with a barrage of field goals including three 3-pointers and free throws and closed out the half with 42-27 lead and the Cougars went into the break down by 15 points.
The second half of play, Marian never increased their lead more than 19 points and the Cougars could never get closer than 10 points, but Spring Arbor did out-score Marian 35-34 in the second stanza.
Rob Hogans led Spring Arbor with 18 points and pulling down four rebounds and Thomas Starks added 11 points to the Cougar books and yanked down five rebounds.
Spring Arbor out-rebounded the Knights 28-22 in the loss.
The Cougars will return to Spring Arbor for a Saturday afternoon game with Goshen College (4-16, 1-7) for a 3:00 game with the Maple Leafs.
