MARION, Ind. – The 9th ranked Spring Arbor University women's soccer team clinched at least a share of the Crossroads League regular season title, as well as the top seed for the conference tournament, with a 2-0 win at Indiana Wesleyan University on Wednesday night.
Shannon Balcer scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 12th minute to send the Cougars to their 10th consecutive victory. Senior Becca Lynn sent her corner kick to the back post where Balcer was waiting, and the junior headed it home to give SAU the lead for good.
The league's reigning Offensive Player of the Week Aubrey Schierbeek would also find the back of the net, tacking on an insurance goal in the 67th minute to put the game out of reach for the Wildcats (4-11-1, 3-4-1 Crossroads League).
The Cougars outshot Indiana Wesleyan 11-5 and owned a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Yancer finished the night with three saves to record the team's fourth straight shutout and 11th of the season.
Spring Arbor (14-1-1, 8-0 Crossroads League) will look to win the conference title outright when they host the University of Saint Francis (10-6-1, 4-4 Crossroads League) on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
