Konkel Drops 30 as Cougars Pull Away from Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Sophomore Aimee Konkel scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Spring Arbor University women's basketball team to an 83-45 victory over Rochester College on Wednesday night.

Konkel knocked down a career-best eight three-pointers, including six in the second half where the Cougars outscored the home team 57-16 to secure the season sweep over the Warriors.

Rochester (4-6) jumped out to a nine point advantage midway through the first half, and maintained the lead the rest of the period.

Still trailing by nine with less than two minutes to play in the opening period, Konkel and sophomore Kylie Townsley would help the Cougars close out the half on a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to three, 29-26, at halftime.

With the score tied 31-31 early in the second stanza, Konkel would bury three triples on consecutive possessions to put SAU up nine and the Cougars would never look back.

Spring Arbor shot over 50 percent (31-for-61) for the game while holding Rochester to 27 percent (19-for-70), including a 3-for-27 mark from three-point range. The Cougars also held the edge in rebounds, pulling down 48 compared to the Warriors' 39.

Konkel finished the night 11-for-21 from the field while connecting on 8-of-17 shots from behind the arc. The 5-4 guard from East Lansing, Michigan also added seven rebounds and two steals.

Townsley and senior Lindsey Burnside followed with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Townsley chipped in five assists and four rebounds while Burnside hauled in eight boards and blocked two shots. Freshman Autumn Goggin also scored in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Rachel Driesenga grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Spring Arbor (2-4) will continue its road swing with a stop at Indiana University-East (4-3) on Saturday, Nov. 22. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
