Women's Basketball Rallies to Win Second Straight

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Spring Arbor University women's basketball team has started its three-game road swing off on the right foot, claiming its second straight victory after defeating Indiana University-East 91-85 on Saturday.

IU-East (4-4) erased a ten-point second half deficit, and eventually grabbed a seven point lead, but the Cougars refused to go away storming back with a 29-16 run to close out the game and secure the win.

After a back and forth first half that featured 14 ties and 10 lead changes, the second period was a half of runs.

The Cougars, who took a 39-35 lead into halftime, opening the second stanza with six straight points to take their largest lead of the game. However, the Red Wolves countered by scoring 15 of the next 19 points to jump in front 50-49 at the 12:41 mark.

The home team continued to push its lead, owning a seven point advantage, 69-62, with 7:41 remaining in the contest.

Spring Arbor would answer, though, with a 15-4 run of their own – capped by back-to-back buckets from senior Lindsey Burnside and sophomore Karly Bender – to take a lead they would not surrender.

Five players scored in double figures for the Cougars, including junior Jessica Mabry, who recorded a career-high 20 points. Sophomore Kylie Townsley led the way with 23 points while Bender added 12 and freshman Autumn Goggin followed with a season-high 11. Sophomore Rachel Driesenga posted her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Spring Arbor (3-4) wraps up the road trip when it visits Goshen College on Tuesday, Nov. 25 to open Crossroads League play. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip.
