MARION, IN – Spring Arbor jumped out to a quick five point lead over the 10th ranked Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats when Kylie Townsley connected on a field goal to lift the Cougars to a 7-2 lead which sparked SAU to a 23-23 tie at halftime. The Wildcats pulled away from the Cougars in the second half and eventually defeated Spring Arbor 64-51.
The loss to IWU drops the Cougars to 10-17, and 4-12 and into a tie in the Crossroads League standings with Mount Vernon Nazarene for eighth spot and the final spot in the Crossroads League post season tournament.
Three Cougars scored double digit points against Indiana Wesleyan led by Carlie Newman with 13, Townsley added 12 points and Jessica Garrison scored 11 points.
Newman grabbed a game high 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.
Mount Vernon lost to Bethel 61-55 today and have Grace at home and travel to Spring Arbor to finish their regular season while the Cougars travel to Marian on Wednesday night before they host Mount Vernon on Saturday, February 22 for the showdown for what could be the final spot in the Crossroads League tournament. The Mount Vernon game is also Senior Night to recognize the lone senior, Jessica Garrison.
