Lady Cougars season ends at St. Francis

FORT WAYNE, IN – The Spring Arbor University Cougars went up against the the#1 team in the NAIA DII for the second time in as many weeks and battled them hard, but came up short.  The University of St. Francis ended the season for Spring Arbor with a 66-51win over the Cougars in the quarterfinals of the CL post season tournament.

St. Francis entered the Crossroads League tournament as the number one seed with a perfect 30-0 record and jumped out to a quick 13-7 lead in six minutes of play on the way to a 31-21 halftime lead.

Spring Arbor kept St. Francis within reach and cut the lead in half, 39-34, in the first six minutes of the second half and 16:28 left in the game.

But, just over the next six minutes, St. Francis tore off 11 unanswered points for a 50-34 lead and would hold off any threat Spring Arbor would muster.

Carlie Newman finished with 21 points and seven boards and Rachel Driesenga knocked in seven points and pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.

Jessica Garrison played in her final game for Spring Arbor scoring eight points and while Garrison didn't finish her career with gaudy stats, she was a consistent contributor in her four years wearing the Cougar uniform.

Garrison finished her four years with 888 points (8.46 points per game), 354 rebounds (116, 117, 119 her last three years), 106 assists, and 100 steals, all in 105 appearances.  Garrison left a positive mark in a great four year career.

Spring Arbor completes the season with an 11-19 record, 5-7 on Bockwitz Court and 6-12 on the road.
