HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Spring Arbor University's women's tennis team took its annual trip to the island last week and like most Michiganders, had to wonder what that big bright ball in the sky was.  Under beautiful skies for most of the week, the Lady Cougars went 2-1 during the week. 

Starting with an 8-1 loss to Milligan College, SAU rebounded with a close 5-4 win over Baldwin-Wallace College and finished the week with a strong 6-2 triumph over Missouri Valley College.  A match with Shepard College was cancelled after a brief rain shower crossed the Island and made the courts unplayable.

Quincy Banini earned the only point for Spring Arbor against Milligan in the 7-1 loss and Erin Hossack split the first two sets and fell 10-8 in the super-tiebreaker.

Against Baldwin Wallace, the Cougars battled a tough squad and out lasted the Yellow Jackets 5-4.  The singles matches started the match and was split 3-3.  Quincy Banini, Mary-Kate McShane, and Erin Hossack all won straight sets matches at the 2, 5, and 6 spots respectively.  Hope Roelofs was edged out 10-8 in the third set at the #1 singles spot.

Roelofs and Banini teamed up at #1 doubles for a 8-3 win and Jenna Bart and Hossack won the deciding point at #2 doubles with a narrow 8-6 win.

After a cancellation with Shepard College, the Lady Cougars finished the week with Missouri Valley and a 6-2 win over the Vikings.

Banini, Hossack and McShane all won straight set matches at #'s 2, 4, and 5 singles.  Banini finished the week 3-0 at #2 singles.

Roelofs and Banini won 8-3 at #1 doubles, Bart and Hossack took the #2 doubles match at 8-1, and McShane and Paige Fallu won at #3 doubles, 8-4.

Spring Arbor will resume the spring schedule with a match against Alma College in Alma, MI on Thursday, March 20 at 4:00
